Dr Bass demonstrating the Antalgic-Trak on a physician. Presenting at the annual Whiplash Congress Convention in Miami |
Spinal decompression has become a major component of spinal rehabilitation treatment. Currently it is being used across the country by medical and chiropractic physicians as well as physical therapy offices. It is also available in select hospitals. Why is spinal decompression so important? Because it has the ability to heal the spine in an elongated posture. Spinal elongation helps slow down, reverse and stop the degenerative effects of gravity. It also enlarges sensitive nerve root openings which when pinched, is the source of most pain.

| See the red bulged disc putting pressure on the soft yellow nerve. |
The picture to the right shows a herniated disc (red area). Its bulging into the nerve root opening and pressing onto the soft yellow nerve. If that nerve travels down your leg and into your toe, that is where you will feel numbness or pain. However, if the disc bulge is mild, you may feel the pain only in your back. But don't let that fool you, you need treatment.
Herniated or bulging discs are treated by gently separating the vertebrae above and below the disc. This action creates a soothing vacuum pressure within the disc that can draw the expanded portion back in. Once the disc moves off the nerve, your pain is gone.
As you feel better, we continue the therapy to maintain the improved spacing while the disc and surrounding tissues are healing. This is what works best. If we don't continue the therapy, the compression pressure will return and re-squeeze the disc onto the nerve. You never want to heal compressed.
